Raja Talkies is a historic and popular cinema hall located at 246, Anna Salai (Nehru Street Cutting) in Pondicherry.
It was inaugurated on 14th July 1968 by Chevalier Shri Sivaji Ganesan and originally became famous for releasing many of his films.
Over the decades, the theatre has undergone significant renovations to modernize its facilities, including converting to an
air-conditioned auditorium and introducing SONY 4K projection with RealD 3D andDolby 7.1 digital sound for a better viewing experience.
The seating capacity was optimized with new push-back seats for added comfort, and the auditorium was refreshed with a distinctive
hill-blue interior following the upgrades
Today, Raja Talkies offers moviegoers an enjoyable cinema experience with a single large screen, quality sound, and parking
facilities right at the location, making it convenient for both locals and visitors. It also provides a selection of snacks
and beverages available under hygienic conditions. While many patrons laud the upgraded projection and sound technology, some
reviews note mixed feedback on seat comfort and screen brightness, reflecting varying preferences among audiences
Strategically situated near landmarks like Shanmuga Textiles and the Water Tank in Pondicherry Bazaar, the theatre remains a go-to
destination for watching popular Tamil and regional releases, often drawing crowds especially on weekends and during major film premiers.
The longstanding presence of Raja Talkies in Pondicherry’s entertainment scene has made it a memorable part of local movie-going culture
while still adapting to modern cinematic expectations.
